LIFE AT SHELL:

If you would have asked me 3½ years ago what I would be doing,

I would have never said oil and gas.

...instead of going in opposite directions,

- they'll be parallel. - Oh, really?

Shell is looking for future leaders.

I like this statement.

Our vision and strategy is to become the most innovative and competitive energy company.

The key enabler for that is IT.

I am responsible for the development and blending

of bespoke fuels and lubricants products that we provide to the Ferrari Formula 1 team.

This is the GTL 4, meaning four centistokes at 100 degrees C.

My job involves looking at the strategy of Shell

and trying to understand the opportunities for both acquiring and divesting assets.

Everything that I do at work is only achieved

through working together as part of a large team.

We have up to 50 different scientists and engineers

and we really couldn't achieve the things we do

without that wide variety of multidisciplinary skills.

I have a great team.

Some of them are based in Houston and some of them are based here in London.

So today's meeting I would like to talk about...

We meet once a month via telepresence.

My job is trying to find out the best solution to get more oil and gas from the well.

I can see the bottom-line impact of the work that I do.

When I acquire an asset and bring it in,

I can see that I'm extending the life of a particular field.

The extension of the life of that field allows for job creation potentially in the area.

We get to develop and test fuels and lubricants products

in one of the most technically challenging environments in the world.

We can take those learnings and we can put them into the commercial products -

the V-Powers, the Shell Helix, oils and fuels -

that everyday customers get to use.

I really enjoy when a project goes live.

You get the satisfaction from the business saying,

"Thanks, this is really saving me so much money and is helping me to improve operations."

And ultimately, to see that difference to the customer,

that's the greatest satisfaction that you get.

Shell always provides the opportunity to look and search for your skills,

and then maximise on your capabilities and share it with others.

I was given a rig within my first three months of working at Shell.

Of course, I had my mentor there with me.

It helps you grow very quickly.

Your learning curve just escalates like you would not imagine.

I have a company that are working on those plans right now.

If you're proactive about your development, you can just go anywhere.

If you find what you're good at,

Shell will definitely give you opportunity to deliver on that and expand further.

The calculated volume came back and we didn't see much...

You have a global network,

so I know that somebody out there knows this issue that I'm dealing with

and I can pick up the phone and, you know, figure out whatever I need to.

My role, because it cuts across so many different functions and disciplines,

it means that every day provides a learning opportunity.

I meet new people every day.

Every day is another excitement, another new challenge.
